Squealing / Chirping

High-pitched squeals are more than a regular annoyance to the driver – they could also indicate a loose or depleted belt. If you detect such sounds emanating from the engine, odds are high that your serpentine belt – which manages your alternator, power steering pump, and water pump – is the culprit. Manufacturers intentionally insert a tiny metal fragment in your brake pads, generating a squealing sound to alert you that your brake pads are becoming thin. Examining your brake pads’ condition is essential, but swapping brake pads is much more standard (and less costly) than substituting your serpentine belt.

Knocking / Tapping / Pinging

Commonly, these noises are generated by a leak in the exhaust system. If ignored, this leak can diminish both engine performance and fuel efficiency. The leak could be arising from multiple sources: holes in the muffler, catalytic converter, or exhaust manifold are all potential leak locations.
